Eating Disorders and Body Image
Megan has extensive experience working with eating disorders at the inpatient, day-treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels of care.
Eating disorders are often defined by a disordered preoccupation with body size, weight, and food. Distorted body image, negative self concept, disordered eating, exercise and self esteem are some of the components of eating disorders. While every individual experiences a unique journey, below are examples of the most common categorization of eating disorders:
Anorexia Nervosa - symptoms include restricted eating, body image distortions, fear of weight gain, disordered eating
Bulimia Nervosa - symptoms include a cycle of binge eating and purging (over exercising, vomiting, laxatives, or other purging behaviors)
Binge Eating - patterns of compulsive and emotional eating (no purging behaviors)
Eating Disorder NOS (not otherwise specified) - disordered relationship with food and body image issues that do not fall under one of the above three categories.
Art Therapy, Yoga, & Mindfulness
Sometimes expressing ourselves requires more than words.
Cognitive talk therapy works by talking about our thoughts, our emotions, and our behaviors. However, sometimes expressing ourselves requires more than words. Art Therapy and Mindfulness are ways of improving the mind body connection.
Art Therapy incorporates art making as a means of self discovery, using images to connect with your inner thoughts and emotions.
Mindfulness in therapy focuses on connecting to the emotions and thoughts in the present moment with awareness and without judgement.
Breathing techniques alongside yoga movements and guided meditations can provide a deeper connection between the mind and body and offer a means of managing stress and anxiety.

Clinical Supervision for Pre-Licensed Therapists
Clinical supervision is available for new therapists accruing hours for licensure as Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Pennsylvania. Supervision is a vital component to practicing and developing as a therapist. It is a source of support in an increasingly challenging field. Finding a mentor, developing a greater sense of professional identity, and processing countertransference and vicarious trauma are additional reasons for seeking supervision. Art making, case presentation, and discussion are all a part of the supervision process.
